Stupidity of youth

As soon as I got rid of my imported biimer I had to “invest” my money again….well at least idea was good :D. Went trough all the local car market and came across mar IV Golf with unbelievably powerful 1.6l petrol juice box under the hood producing massive 77kW.

Well, there it was, another bright hope to make some profit out of it :D. In reality it was quite bad- cyproc skews holding thinks together, useless door locks, stained seats, hand twisted wires and so on. And if this wasn’t enough I decided to learn my hand on changing the cambelt witch was… well lets be honest, I ended up fucking up the the engine!

Good tip to others when doing such work- always triple check everything before even considering to start up your engine after belt is changed. In my chase I forgot to fix pulley on crankshaft with bolt and this was enough to skip tooth on belt and hit the valves by pistons. Stupit, very fking stupit! Young & stupit!

From this point all the operation started to produce huge expenses. After compression test was done, it was clear that there is no more compression left inside this engine, head was stripped and sent to local workshop. Detjonõshev was the guy who carried out the job. Back then they were located at Veerenni. For now they have moved to Kadaka tee. It cost me aprox 400.- but the job what they carried out was more than superb!

Brand new basically!

New cylinder head bolts where ordered- cannot use the old bolts because they tend to stretch a bit longer under load so you cannot torque them down by spec @ second time. Also good tip is to make sure that there is no water oil etc left on bolt holes- it is quite tight space where you have screw those bolts and if there is liquid on the way you will risk to damage the block it self with hydraulic pressure! New bolts in hand everything was put back together according to manual and this time I paid very close attention not to fuck up everything again! Engine was quickly back together, up & running. Gave quite a lesson I have to admit!

Later I swapped this car with my parents Opel and few month in use engine was blown again thanks to broken pulley bolt- very unlucky! Father repaired it again and after this swapped it for vw caddy if I’m not mistaken.

In next episode I will cover the topic how to patch up the big hole if there is no welding machine in hand…..

Thank you from reading & stay tuned!
